AHRC project reference: AH/K006231/1
[April 2013 - June 2014; PROJECT NOW COMPLETED]

The purpose of this blog is to disseminate information and activities relating to an AHRC research networking project entitled 'Digitising experiences of migration: the development of interconnected letter collections'. The project ran from April 2013 to June 2014; a summary of the project aims can be found here. Two areas we were particularly interested in exploring for this project were the use of markup for capturing and organising metadata relating to historical emigrant letter collections and using digital tools to search and visualise that metadata. See the 'Markup' and 'Visualisation tools' pages of this blog for more on this. For a general overview of the project see Moreton, O'Leary and O'Sullivan (2014) and Amador-Moreno et. al. (2016) - full references are listed below. Possible templates for capturing information about emigrant letters, the participants involved in the act of communication and their locations can be found in chapters five and six of Moreton (2016). Details of the TEI markup schema for emigrant letters, created by Peter Stadler and his team, can be found on GitHub. See, also, the TEI correspondence wiki for more on using TEI to annotate letter collections.

Please get in touch if you have any questions or comments regarding this project - we'd be very happy to hear from you!
